According to the sources, the major cause for the present high pricing can be traced back to a rapid spike in temperature in March and April, which resulted in insect attacks on output, causing many producers to leave their crops.
Officials from Telangana's Horticulture Department said that the prices have risen owing to unseasonal rainfall and major damage to crops in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, where tomatoes are obtained during the months of May and June.
"During this time of year, Telangana's local farmers sow the tomato crop". Harvesting the crop might take anywhere from 60 to more than 100 days, according to a senior official with the Telangana State Horticulture Department.
The price rise is a national issue, with numerous metro centres seeing significant price increases. "Prices are expected to fall in the next 15 to 20 days as local procedure begins to arrive at the market", another official stated.
