Annual Information Statement (AIS)

AIS is comprehensive view of information for a taxpayer displayed in Form 26AS. It shows both reported value and modified value (i.e. value after considering taxpayer feedback) under each section (i.e. TDS, SFT, Other information)

Reported Value

Information value reported by the information source against a PAN is referred to as "reported value."

Modified Value

Value that has been altered by the taxpayer through the submission of feedback is referred to as Modified Value. The Annual Information Statement (AIS) will display the reported value and the value after feedback in separate columns.

Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS)

TIS is a taxpayer's aggregated information summary broken down by information type. Under each information category, such as salaries, interest, dividends, etc., it displays processed value (i.e., value created after deduplication of information based on pre-defined criteria) and derived value (i.e., value obtained after taking taxpayer feedback and processed value into consideration). The prefilling of Return will be done using the derived information in TIS.

Processed Value

Processed value is the value that results from information deduplication using pre-established criteria. The Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) is the sole place where the Processed Value appears.

Information Category

Derived value is the value that appears in the Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) and is obtained after taking into account processed value and, if applicable, any taxpayer feedback. The information generated will be used to prefill the Return.

Derived Value

Information sources are combined into a wide information category (see Annexure A) that allows for the pre-filling of ITRs by providing a condensed overview of related information.

L1 Level Information

The Annual Information Statement (AIS) displays information at several levels, with L1 Level Information being the lowest. The unique Transaction sequence number (TSN) is used to display each piece of information. The L1 level is always used to record customer feedback. If a taxpayer offers bulk input, it is recorded at the TSN level. Both reported value and derived value (i.e., value determined after taking into account the taxpayer response) are displayed at the L1 Level.

L2 Level Information

The source-specific aggregated number included in the Annual Information Statement (AIS) and the Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) is known as L2 Level Information. Duplicate information is noted at L2 during processing.
