PM Scholarship – The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme (PMSS), run by the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is a scholarship scheme that aims at encouraging higher professional and technical education for the dependent wards and widows of Central Armed Police Forces & Assam Rifles (CAPFs & AR) and State Police Personnel. Initiated in the year 2006-07, the PM scholarship scheme has by far influenced lakhs of students and helped them pursue their dream career with ease

The Government of India has recently approved major changes in the scholarship by revising the scholarship amount for girls from INR 2,250 to INR 3,000 per month and scholarship amount for boys from INR 2,000 to INR 2,500 per month. Adding to this, 500 new scholarships will also be given to the wards of State Police officials who are/were martyred in naxal or terror attacks
Important Dates:
- Online Registration starts in the month of July
- Last date to submit online application October 31, 2019
- Last date for verification of defective applications December 31, 2019
- Last date for institute verification December 31, 2019
- Verification of application by CAPFs & AR January 1, 2020 to January 15, 2020
- Preparation of merit list and lot generation phase January 16, 2020 to January 26, 2020
- Sanctioning of scholarship by R&W Directorate, MHA 27 January 2020 to 5 February 2020
- Payment file generation 6 February 2020 to 15 February 2020
- Disbursement of scholarship amount 16 February 2020 to 28 February 2020
- Dispatch of personal letters from Honourable Prime Minister 15 March 2020
Eligibility for Scholarship:
- Students who have taken admission in 1st year (except lateral entry & integrated courses) are only eligible for PMSS
- Students must apply online on KSB web portal www.ksb.gov.in. Students should have scored 60% and above in Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ) i.e 10+2/ Diploma/ Graduation
- Students studying in 2nd or subsequent years are not eligible (except for integrated courses where 1st portion is academic and 2nd portion is integrated as professional course). In such cases student need to apply for scholarship on taking admission as per 'para 18 Important instructions' available at link PMSS-New application-How to apply for scholarship.
- Students who are dependent wards/ Widows of Ex servicemen and Ex coast Guard personnel
- Wards of civilians including para military personnel are not eligible
Eligible Courses:
- Professional Degree courses like BE, BTech, BDS, MBBS, B Ed, BBA, B Pharma, etc. duly recognised by the respective Government Regulatory bodies such as All India Council for Technical Education, Medical Council of India, UGC. (Master Degree Courses are not eligible for PMSS except MBA, MCA).
- Students can see the list of eligible courses for details. Students studying abroad are not eligible for this scheme. Students getting stipend for the professional Degree courses are also not entitled. No distance learning course is permitted under PMSS. PMSS can be availed for one course only.

Scholarships for integrated courses:
The facility under PMSS is restricted for Professional Degree Course only, such as B Ed but not for BA+B Ed, also for LLB not for BA+LLB. In case of integrated ME/ MTech/ MPharma initial four years scholarship will be given.
Scholarships available:
- A total number of 5500 wards/ widows of ex servicemen are selected for scholarship in each academic year.
- Scholarships are equally divided amongst boys and girls i.e, 2750 each
- Scholarships are paid for a period of one to five years as per the duration of the courses approved by the concerned regulatory bodies.
- Scholarship amount will be paid anually to the selected students.
Important Points:
- Two to five years as duration of the course approved by the concerned regulatory body (except one year for B Ed)
- The amount of scholarship would be as follows: a) Rs. 2500 per month for boys. b) Rs. 3000 per month for girls paid anually after selection.
